Biographie / Biography

I was born on the 7th of June in 1964 in Neede in the Netherlands. After my HBO degree in 1988 I was a teacher in the Dutch language on a high school. After that I have been an international truck driver from 1990 until 1996. Hereafter I worked I while as a copywriter for an advertising agency. I purchased Rhinoceros from a good friend of mine. Being a sculpturer himself he encouraged me to make the most of 3D Drawing. And so I did. 3D Drawing and 3D Animating is my sole and main activity for 6 or 7 years now.

Commentaire / Statement

A year ago I was experimenting with animations of several elliptic forms in Rhino 3D.
At a certain point one animation surprisingly showed a moiré on it.
Most people find moiré’s annoying if it doesn’t suet their purpose. I, however, was immediately fascinated by the phenomenon.
The next few months I started to draw and animate the more traditional moiré’s with concentric circles. After this it seemed that one hardly had anything to say about the path the moiré would take. That frustrated me.
The moiré’s Christian has received on CD-Rom shows a collection where I finally start getting grip of its path. I started to work with curved tubes. If you calculate the thickness of these tubes and the angle of the curves and the distance between the tubes and than define the path the two planes of tubes should take it becomes increasingly predictable how the end result will look. When I tried this with concentrical rings I got the same moiré again only thicker or lighter.  I am not completely satisfied, yet, because I am at this moment trying to take full control of the movement. I am not sure if that’s possible but, the more control, the better.
Since your theme this year is “cybersculpture  and light” I thought these animations could fit in nicely. Because the black curved tubes and the light of the background make the moiré.
